Toolox 46
Toolox 46, the further development of Toolox 44 for hot working. Fully hardened to 46 HRC. With its increased molybdenum content, Toolox 46 was designed for forging tools or metal die-casting moulds as well as extrusion tools at a contact temperature of up to 600°C.
Toolox 46 is fully hardened to 430 – 490 HBW, even higher than Toolox 44. Even with this high hardness and toughness, Toolox 46 exhibits good machinability.
This material successfully competes with the classic ESR grade 1.2343 / H11. Its advantage lies in superior cost-effectiveness, as the heat treatment is already included in the as-delivered condition, hard machining is easier, and the tool life is equivalent.
- Minimal residual stresses
- Virtually distortion-free machining
- Hardness 46 HRC, no heat treatment required.
- Impact toughness forged: Charpy-V min. 11 J (20°C), measured on longitudinal specimens at ¼ of the material thickness
- Impact toughness rolled: Charpy-V min. 8 J (20°C), measured on transverse specimens at ¼ of the material thickness
- Tensile strength Rm approx. 1.600 MPa
Dimensions: Toolox 46 is supplied as forged round bar with diameters from 151 mm to 353 mm, as rolled sheet/plate in thicknesses of 60 – 130 mm, and as flat forged material in thicknesses from 150 to 320 mm.
